About the Speaker:
Dr. Robert Wildin, M.D., is Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and of Pediatrics at the University of Vermont and the UVM Health Network. He practices Clinical Genetics and Laboratory Genetics in Burlington. He is the lead designer and implementor of the Genomic Population Health Screening pilot in partnership with primary care departments in the UVM Health Network. Dr. Wildin was Chief of the Genomic Healthcare Branch at NIH's "Genome Institute" when then President Obama introduced his "Precision Medicine Initiative," which kick-started NIH's ambitious, inclusive, participant-driven research program, "All of Us." All of Us is still recruiting participants from all backgrounds and ancestries, and from medically underserved areas. Dr. Wildin will speak about the importance of All of Us in the context of local efforts to optimize responsible use of one's genomic information in healthcare.

Too often, health care is one size fits all. Treatments meant for the “average” patient may not work well for individual people. Health care providers may find it difficult to coordinate care among specialists or to access all of a patient’s health information. Researchers may spend lots of time and resources creating new databases for every study.
All of Us is working to improve health care through research. Unlike research studies that focus on one disease or group of people, All of Us is building a diverse database that can inform thousands of studies on a variety of health conditions.
