Our Read Away Your Fines program was so successful, we've extended it!
FFL cardholders ages 21 and under can read at the Fletcher Free Library to reduce their library fines.
One hour of reading in the library will wipe out $5 in fines or fees!
How does it work?
Children and young adults may sign in and out at the youth or teen desks with a librarian to track time spent reading in the library. Corresponding fees will be waived at the front desk.
- How do I qualify?
Fletcher Free Library cardholders who are 21 and under who have fines on their own card may participate. Other Fletcher Free cardholders may participate in our Volunteer Away Your Fines program.
- Which fines will be waived?
Any fines or fees on the participating reader's own account may be waived.
- Do I have to read for a full hour to receive credit?
The program is based on a $5 credit per hour of reading, but please talk with your librarian if you can only read for a shorter period.
- Can I get credit for fines I already paid, or reimbursement for reading at the library during this program?
Sorry, only currently outstanding fines will be waived. No reimbursement or future credits will be issued.
- Do I have to read to waive my fines? Can I watch a movie or surf the web to reduce my fines?
Only reading material counts for credit, but you can read books, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers...you can even listen to an audiobook or read a book aloud to someone else to get credit! Check with your librarian for some great reading suggestions.
