Free Library Public Wi-Fi Internet Access The Library provides free wireless Internet access via two open, unsecured wireless networks. It is strongly recommended that you do not use our networks to transmit personal, financial or legal data. It is not possible for the Library to protect you against malicious theft or interception of such data transmitted over the wireless networks. The Library will not assume responsibility for the safety of equipment or for harm done to laptop/PDA configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the library’s wireless service. Virus and security protection is the responsibility of the wireless user. The laptop/PDA owner is responsible for setting up their equipment to access the Fletcher Free Library wireless networks. The library provides limited technical assistance to assist wireless users connecting to our networks (please see below). The Library is not responsible for any changes you make to your computer’s settings and cannot guarantee your hardware will work with our wireless connection. Library staff does not provide technical assistance with wireless access, and will not under any circumstances make changes to the configuration of a privately owned wireless device. The Library reserves the right to limit bandwidth on a per connection basis on the wireless network. This will ensure network reliability and fair sharing of network resources for all wireless users. In general, the library limits users to 128kb to 500kb per connection. Staff enforcement of Fletcher Free Library's Internet Use Policy by regularly monitoring computer use by wireless end-users is not possible due to the size of the library building. Therefore, Fletcher Free Library has enabled content filtering on its wireless network in order to prevent the viewing of obscene material or sexually explicit graphics, activities that are expressly forbidden under the Policy. Please contact staff at the Reference Desk if you have questions about wireless access at the library. By using the Fletcher Free Library wireless network, the wireless user agrees to abide by the Library’s Public WiFi Internet Access Agreement. |

Get Connected to the Fletcher Free Library’s Wi-Fi Networks The Fletcher Free Library has 2 wireless systems that patrons can use. Wireless users should connect their device to either of the wireless networks named “fletcher” or “library”. The “library” network has better coverage throughout the building, the “fletcher” network is best on the top floor of the new building. To log into the “library” network, users should open their browser, agree to the terms of service, and click on the “Submit” button. To log into the “fletcher” network, users should open their browser and click on the “Skip” button. (Patrons cannot use the wireless network named “FL3TCH3R”) Read the Fletcher Free Library Public Wi-Fi Internet Access Use Agreement. Use of our Wi-Fi zone implies that you have read the agreement. Technical tips for connecting: If you have a newer laptop or wireless card, your computer may automatically find our wireless networks. If you need to change your computer’s settings in order to use Wi-Fi, be sure your computer is set up to use:
Once your computer is configured correctly, start your web browser. Once your browser attempts to access a web page you will be directed to the network's login page. For the "fletcher" network, click the Skip button; for the "library" network, click the checkbox and the Submit button. If you are using Windows XP you should see a wireless connectivity icon in the system tray. Right-click it and choose "View Available Wireless Networks". From here you can see which networks are in range, double-click either "fletcher" or "library" to connect. Do not try connecting to "FL3TCH3R" - it won't work. If you use Windows XP, check your network connections by going to Start >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections >>> Click on “View Available Wireless Connections”. Do you see the "fletcher" or "library" network? Are you connected? Start Internet Explorer. Select Tools >>> Internet Options >>> Connections tab >>> LAN Settings. Make sure there is a check mark on the Automatically Detect Settings option. If your computer has manufacturer's wireless connection software running in the system tray, you may need to disable this so that it does not interfere with Windows connection attempts. Verify
the TCP/IP settings by doing the following (depending on your configuration): Right click the wireless adapter and select "Properties" from the pull down menu >>> Select the General Tab (selected by default). Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and select it >>> Click the "Properties" button and verify that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are selected >>> Select OK from the Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties Window.
